What Massage Is Right For You?

Modalities of Massage
Every body is different — and so is every massage. Whether you’re looking for deep therapeutic work, stress relief, pain management, athletic recovery, prenatal care, or a more traditional Eastern approach, our therapists offer a wide range of massage techniques tailored to your individual needs.
On this page, you can explore the different massage styles, their benefits, pressure levels, contraindications, and which ZenBlossom therapists are trained in each technique. Many of these modalities are incorporated into our Intuitive Therapeutic Massage sessions rather than booked as standalone services.
Please note that not every technique listed below appears as a separate booking option on our menu. Some techniques are integrated therapeutically based on your session goals, while Eastern-based bodywork services such as Thai Massage, Ashiatsu are offered within our dedicated Eastern modalities menu.
How to Prepare for Your Massage
To help you get the most out of your session, we recommend arriving about 10 minutes before your appointment time to allow time for parking, using the restroom, and settling into a relaxed state before your massage begins.
Please note that ZenBlossom is a private boutique practice and we do not have a full-time receptionist. If your therapist is in session, the front door may be temporarily locked to protect the quiet, uninterrupted experience of clients currently receiving treatment. If you arrive early, simply wait patiently and your therapist will greet you as soon as possible between sessions.
For the best experience, we also recommend:
-
Staying hydrated before and after your massage
-
Avoiding heavy meals immediately before your session
-
Wearing comfortable clothing
-
Communicating any injuries, medical conditions, sensitivities, or preferences with your therapist
-
Arriving with an open mind and allowing yourself time to fully relax
If this is your first visit, intake forms may be sent electronically ahead of time to make your check-in process faster and more seamless.
Myofascial Release is a specialized massage technique designed to relieve chronic tension and tightness within the fascia — the connective tissue surrounding muscles and joints. Using sustained pressure and slow, targeted movements, this technique helps release restricted areas known as trigger points, improving mobility, flexibility, and overall comfort. How Is It Different From Other Massage Techniques? Myofascial Release typically uses little to no lotion or oil, allowing the therapist to apply sustained pressure with greater control and traction. This slower approach helps stretch and release fascial restrictions more effectively than traditional flowing massage techniques. May Be Beneficial For Chronic muscle tension Neck and shoulder pain Headaches and TMJ discomfort Postural strain and desk-related tension Mobility and flexibility issues Athletic recovery Contraindications Myofascial Release may not be recommended for individuals with recent injuries, acute inflammation, infections, blood clotting disorders, or certain pain-sensitive conditions. If you have medical concerns, our therapists can help determine whether this treatment is appropriate for you. Therapists Brandy Eric Brandon
Neuromuscular Therapy is a targeted therapeutic massage technique that focuses on relieving chronic muscle pain, nerve compression, and postural imbalances. Using precise pressure on specific muscles and trigger points, this technique helps reduce tension, improve circulation, and restore proper movement patterns within the body. Neuromuscular Therapy is commonly used to address pain caused by repetitive stress, injury, overuse, or muscular compensation patterns. How Is It Different From Other Massage Techniques? Unlike relaxation-focused massage, Neuromuscular Therapy uses focused, intentional pressure to locate and treat specific areas of dysfunction within the muscular and nervous systems. Sessions are often highly customized and may combine trigger point work, stretching, and corrective techniques to address the root cause of discomfort. May Be Beneficial For Chronic pain and muscle tension Sciatica and nerve-related discomfort Neck and shoulder pain Headaches and migraines Postural imbalances Repetitive strain injuries Hip and lower back pain TMJ dysfunction Contraindications Neuromuscular Therapy may not be recommended for individuals with acute injuries, severe inflammation, blood clotting disorders, recent surgeries, or certain nerve-related conditions. If you have medical concerns or unexplained pain symptoms, our therapists can help determine whether this treatment is appropriate for you. Therapists Eric Brandy Brandon
Warm Bamboo Massage is a therapeutic massage technique that uses heated bamboo tools to help release muscle tension, improve circulation, and promote deep relaxation. The warmth of the bamboo allows muscles to relax more quickly while the tools provide smooth, firm pressure across larger areas of the body. This treatment combines the benefits of heat therapy with therapeutic massage techniques for a deeply calming and restorative experience. How Is It Different From Other Massage Techniques? Unlike traditional massage performed only with the hands, Warm Bamboo Massage incorporates heated bamboo tools of varying sizes to roll, knead, and compress the muscles. The bamboo allows the therapist to deliver deeper pressure with smooth, flowing movements while reducing strain on the hands and wrists. The warmth helps soften tight muscles and encourages relaxation throughout the session. May Be Beneficial For Muscle tension and stiffness Stress and anxiety relief Deep relaxation Athletic recovery Circulation support Neck, shoulder, and back tension Clients who enjoy heat therapy Contraindications Warm Bamboo Massage may not be recommended for individuals with heat sensitivity, acute inflammation, recent injuries, certain cardiovascular conditions, neuropathy, or skin conditions affected by heat. If you have medical concerns, our therapists can help determine whether this treatment is appropriate for you. Therapists Eric Brandy Rachell
Ashiatsu, also known as Barefoot Massage, is a deep compression massage technique performed using the therapist’s feet rather than their hands. By using overhead support bars for balance and control, the therapist is able to deliver broad, consistent pressure that can effectively target deeper muscle layers while remaining smooth and relaxing. This technique is especially popular among clients who enjoy deeper pressure without the sharp discomfort that can sometimes occur with pointed elbow or thumb work. How Is It Different From Other Massage Techniques? Unlike traditional deep tissue massage performed primarily with the hands and forearms, Ashiatsu uses the broad surface of the feet to provide deep, even compression across larger muscle groups. This allows for deeper pressure with less poking or localized discomfort while encouraging muscle relaxation and improved circulation. Sessions are performed on a massage table using oil or lotion for smooth, flowing movements. May Be Beneficial For Chronic muscle tension Deep tissue pressure preferences Athletic recovery Lower back and hip tension Tight shoulders and legs Stress-related tension patterns Clients who prefer broad, consistent pressure Contraindications Ashiatsu may not be recommended for individuals with osteoporosis, certain spinal conditions, acute injuries, recent surgeries, blood clotting disorders, or severe pain sensitivity. Pregnant clients and individuals with certain medical conditions should consult with their healthcare provider before receiving treatment. Therapists Brandy Rachell
Swedish Massage is one of the most well-known and widely practiced massage techniques, designed to promote relaxation, improve circulation, and reduce everyday muscle tension. Using smooth, flowing strokes with light to moderate pressure, this treatment helps calm the nervous system while supporting overall wellness and stress relief. Swedish Massage is an excellent choice for first-time massage clients or anyone looking to relax and recharge. How Is It Different From Other Massage Techniques? Unlike deeper therapeutic modalities that focus on chronic pain or corrective work, Swedish Massage uses gentle, rhythmic techniques intended to encourage relaxation and full-body circulation. Sessions typically include long gliding strokes, kneading, and light muscle work using lotion or oil for a smooth, soothing experience. May Be Beneficial For Stress and anxiety relief General muscle tension Improved circulation Relaxation and sleep support Mental and physical fatigue First-time massage clients Light recovery and wellness maintenance Contraindications Swedish Massage may not be recommended for individuals with fever, contagious illness, certain skin conditions, blood clots, or acute injuries and inflammation. Deep Tissue Massage is a therapeutic massage technique designed to relieve chronic muscle tension, improve mobility, and address deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. Using slow, focused pressure, this treatment targets areas of restriction, tightness, and muscular imbalance caused by stress, overuse, injury, or repetitive movement patterns. Deep Tissue Massage is commonly recommended for individuals experiencing chronic pain, tension, or limited range of motion. How Is It Different From Other Massage Techniques? Unlike relaxation-focused massage, Deep Tissue Massage uses firmer pressure and slower techniques to work deeper into the muscles and fascia. Sessions may include focused work on specific problem areas, trigger points, and areas of chronic tension while still remaining customized to your comfort level. Deep pressure should never feel sharp or unbearable, and communication with your therapist is encouraged throughout the session. May Be Beneficial For Chronic neck and shoulder tension Lower back pain and hip tightness Athletic recovery and mobility Postural strain and desk-related tension Repetitive stress injuries Muscle stiffness and restricted movement Chronic stress-related tension patterns Contraindications Deep Tissue Massage may not be recommended for individuals with acute injuries, severe inflammation, blood clotting disorders, osteoporosis, recent surgeries, or certain pain-sensitive conditions. Hot Stone Massage is a deeply relaxing massage technique that uses smooth, heated stones to help warm tight muscles, improve circulation, and promote full-body relaxation. The soothing heat allows the therapist to work more deeply into the muscles while creating a calming, grounding experience for the nervous system. This treatment combines traditional massage techniques with heat therapy for both therapeutic relief and stress reduction. How Is It Different From Other Massage Techniques? Unlike traditional massage performed only with the hands, Hot Stone Massage incorporates heated basalt stones throughout the session. The therapist may place stones on specific areas of the body or use them as massage tools to apply smooth, flowing pressure. The warmth helps muscles relax more quickly, making it easier to address areas of tension without excessive pressure. May Be Beneficial For: * Stress and anxiety relief * Muscle tension and stiffness * Chronic neck and shoulder tension * Relaxation and sleep support * Circulation support * Cold sensitivity or muscle tightness * Clients who enjoy heat therapy Contraindications Hot Stone Massage may not be recommended for individuals with heat sensitivity, neuropathy, acute inflammation, fever, certain cardiovascular conditions, recent injuries, or skin conditions affected by heat. Prenatal Massage is tailored to each stage of pregnancy and focuses on helping expectant mothers feel more comfortable and supported throughout their pregnancy journey. Tui Na (pronounced twee-nah) is a traditional Chinese bodywork therapy that has been practiced for thousands of years as part of Traditional Chinese Medicine. This therapeutic technique combines rhythmic compression, stretching, acupressure, and assisted movement to help improve circulation, reduce muscular tension, and restore balance within the body. Tui Na is often used to address both physical discomfort and overall energetic balance. How Is It Different From Other Massage Techniques? Unlike traditional relaxation massage, Tui Na focuses on stimulating acupressure points and encouraging the flow of energy, or Qi, throughout the body. Treatments may include pressing, rolling, kneading, stretching, and joint mobilization techniques. Sessions can feel both deeply therapeutic and energizing depending on the techniques used. Tui Na is typically performed with minimal oil or lotion and may be done fully clothed in some settings. Thai Massage is a traditional bodywork practice that combines assisted stretching, compression, acupressure, and rhythmic movement to improve flexibility, mobility, circulation, and overall body balance. Often referred to as “assisted yoga,” Thai Massage works along the body’s energetic pathways while also addressing muscular tension and joint restriction. Sessions are typically performed on a comfortable floor mat with the client fully clothed in loose, comfortable clothing. How Is It Different From Other Massage Techniques? Unlike traditional table massage, Thai Massage incorporates stretching, movement, compression, and passive range of motion techniques throughout the session. Rather than using lotion or oil with long gliding strokes, the therapist uses hands, forearms, elbows, knees, and feet to create a dynamic, full-body treatment experience. Thai Massage can be both deeply relaxing and energizing depending on the techniques used and the needs of the client. May Be Beneficial For Muscle tension and stiffness Limited flexibility and mobility Athletic recovery Postural imbalances Stress and fatigue Neck, shoulder, and back tension Full-body circulation and movement Contraindications Thai Massage may not be recommended for individuals with recent surgeries, acute injuries, severe osteoporosis, certain joint conditions, uncontrolled high blood pressure, or mobility limitations that prevent assisted stretching. TMJ Therapy is a focused therapeutic treatment designed to relieve tension, pain, and dysfunction within the jaw muscles and surrounding structures of the head, face, and neck. This technique targets the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and the muscles involved in chewing, clenching, stress patterns, and jaw alignment. TMJ dysfunction is often connected to teeth grinding, jaw clenching, headaches, neck tension, stress, and postural imbalances. How Is It Different From Other Massage Techniques? Unlike traditional massage, TMJ Therapy focuses specifically on the muscles of the jaw, face, scalp, neck, and inside of the mouth. This treatment may include gloved intraoral work, where the therapist carefully works inside the mouth to release deeply held tension within the jaw muscles that cannot be fully accessed externally. While highly effective for many clients, this treatment is therapeutic rather than relaxing and can feel intense or uncomfortable at times — especially in areas with chronic tightness or long-standing tension patterns. May Be Beneficial For Jaw pain and tightness Teeth grinding and clenching TMJ dysfunction Headaches and migraines Facial tension Neck and shoulder tension Limited jaw mobility or clicking Contraindications TMJ Therapy may not be recommended for individuals with recent dental surgery, active oral infections, severe inflammation, certain jaw injuries, or acute nerve pain conditions. If you have medical or dental concerns, our therapist can help determine whether this treatment is appropriate for you. Therapists Brandy
